From building birdhouses as a kid to leading and delivering over 100 construction projects across Wellington, the plantation builds founder's passion for crafting creative, beautiful and highly functional spaces has only deepened over time. Today, our experienced team delivers a start-to-finish build services giving you a clear plan, a dependable team, and an uncompromised quality result without the stress.

The Founding Story
I’m Brad Young, Founding Director of Plantation Builds, and my journey into building started long before I ever picked up a hammer professionally.
From an early age, I discovered a deep passion for working with my hands; the simple joy of building, crafting, and creating something real. My passion first sparked during my intermediate years, when I built small birdhouses for Somes Island’s feathered residents, a simple project that lit a lifelong love for construction and creation. That spark led me to study carpentry at Whitireia Polytechnic, where I learned the fundamentals of the trade and set my sights on excellence, taking honours in my class.
At just 17, I began my apprenticeship, immersing myself in the world of new builds and renovations. Over the years, I had the privilege of working with two award-winning building companies, where I refined my craft and learned that true quality lies in precision, pride, and attention to detail.
In 2019, driven by a desire to create a company defined by integrity, innovation, and passion, I founded Plantation Builds. Since then, we’ve completed more than 100 projects across the Wellington region, from Kapiti to the CBD; helping clients transform ideas into spaces that reflect their lifestyles and aspirations.
At Plantation Builds, we do more than build homes, we build trust. Our approach is defined by transparency, problem-solving, and precision. Through structured systems like weekly toolbox meetings and client wrap-ups, we ensure every project runs smoothly, with communication at its core. It’s this commitment to excellence that has made Plantation Builds a name synonymous with reliability and high-end results.
When I’m not on-site, you’ll find me outdoors; fishing, diving, or spending time with my wife, Nicole, and our son, Beau. For me, building isn’t just about structures; it’s about creating spaces where life’s best memories are made.
